Cory Sullivan

4/9/2006

Sullivan tied a major league record by hitting two triples in the same inning of Sunday's 10-4 win over the Padres. The Rockies' leadoff hitter was the first player to reach the milestone since Gil Coan of the Washington Senators did it on April 21, 1951. It was the 11th time a major leaguer hit two triples in an inning.

Sullivan went 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored Sunday, sparking Colorado to a 7-1 win over Arizona. The rookie center fielder also has a pair of four-hit games in his last 13 contests, dating back to September 4. In that 13-game span, the 26-year-old Sullivan is a .404 hitter (21-for-52) with 14 runs scored.

With a perfect 4-for-4 night on Wednesday -- marking his second four-hit performance in 10 days -- Sullivan now has gone 20-for-51 (.392) over his last 13 contests. During his red-hot 13-game run, the Colorado outfielder has generated three doubles, two triples, two home runs and 14 runs scored. He also has six walks over this stretch, good for a .448 on-base percentage.
