Prince Fielder

3/19/2006

Fielder will rejoin the Brewers on Thursday. He is leaving camp to be with his wife, who is about to give birth.

Fielder has been recalled from Triple-A Nashville by the Milwaukee Brewers, filling the roster spot of injured outfielder Brady Clark. The rookie first baseman, who made his major league debut earlier this season, is 9-for-28 with a home run, six RBI and seven strikeouts in 13 career games with the Brewers.

Fielder's first major league stint ended after three weeks, as the Milwaukee Brewers optioned the promising first-base prospect to Triple-A Nashville Monday to make room for Russell Branyan's return from the disabled list. In 28 at-bats with the Brewers, Fielder hit .321 (9-for-28) with three doubles, a homer and six RBI.

Perhaps in what is a sign of things to come, both Fielder and fellow rookie Rickie Weeks generated their first major league home runs to lead Milwaukee to a 7-6 victory over Minnesota on Saturday. The 21-year-old son of former major league star Cecil Fielder hit a two-run homer off Twins reliever Jesse Crain in the seventh inning to give the Brewers a 7-5 edge.

Just two days after the Rickie Weeks era began in Milwaukee, the Brewers recalled Fielder Monday to get most of the DH at-bats while they face American League teams on the road. The 21-year-old power prospect jumped right into the Milwaukee lineup in Tampa Bay Monday night, and he went 0-for-4 in his major league debut.
