J.J. Hardy

7/19/2006

Hardy will have season-ending surgery on his ankle as soon as Thursday. The Milwaukee shortstop has been on the disabled list since May 17 after severely spraining his right ankle in a play at home plate. Hardy saw a foot specialist on Monday and it was determined that the injury would only heal with an operation. "We figured this was going to happen the way things were going," Brewers manager Ned Yost said. "It got to a point when rehab wasn't getting it done."

The Milwaukee Brewers placed Hardy on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday after severely spraining his right ankle on a play at home plate a day earlier. Hardy is expected to miss two to six weeks, and the Brewers recalled outfielder Corey Hart from Triple-A Nashville to take Hardy's place on the 25-man roster.

Hardy has been sidelined since Sunday with back spasms, but he did some jogging and played catch without any problems on Thursday. The Brewers' shortstop is not expected back on the field until sometime after Milwaukee's day off on Monday.

After leaving Milwaukee's Thursday game with a case of turf toe on his right foot, Hardy didn't play this weekend. The Brewers' shortstop may not play much over the final two weeks, as the club would like to see the toe heal before the season ends.

Hardy left Thursday's game against Florida in the fifth inning with a case of turf toe on his right foot. Milwaukee's rookie shortstop is listed as day-to-day.

9/8/2005

Hardy went 4-for-6, including two doubles and his first career grand slam, and drove in six runs in the Brewers' 14-5 rout of the Cincinnati Reds.

7/4/2005

Hardy may play considerably less after the Milwaukee Brewers activated third baseman Russell Branyan from the disabled list on Monday. The rookie shortstop has struggled this season, batting .188 in 170 at-bats. Bill Hall, who is enjoying a breakout year for the Brewers, is likely to move from third to short with Branyan back.

5/22/2005

Hardy seems to have lost the starting shortstop job to Bill Hall, as the 22-year-old rookie has continued to slump and has been on the bench for the last three games. He's mired in an 0-for-13 skid and he's batting just .156 in 96 at-bats this season.
