Colter Bean

4/28/2005

Bean's short stay with the New York Yankees has ended, as he was demoted when the team recalled starting prospect Chien-Ming Wang on Wednesday, in anticipation of his major league debut on Saturday. Bean was recalled earlier in the week to give the Yankees an extra arm after starter Jaret Wright went on the disabled list with a shoulder injury. Bean worked one two-inning stint during his stay, allowing one run in the Yankees' 12-4 win over the Angels on Tuesday.

After making his major league debut Tuesday, Bean returns to Triple-A Columbus, where the reliever has worked 8.1 scoreless innings and fanned 14 as a reliever.

As a temporary roster filler, Bean has been recalled from Triple-A Columbus by the New York Yankees, as starter Jaret Wright was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right shoulder injury. According to general manager Brian Cashman, the team plans to bring up Chien-Ming Wang to take Wright's spot in the starting rotation later this week, so it is likely that Bean will be sent back down at that time.

Bean could see some time in relief during his short stint with the Yankees, and if he does, it will be his major league debut. In seven appearances with Columbus this season, Bean has tossed 8.1 shutout innings, striking out 14.
