Scott Proctor

8/29/2005

The New York Yankees returned Proctor to Triple-A Columbus over the weekend, in order to make room for newly acquired outfielder Matt Lawton. Proctor has posted a 4.50 ERA in 19 relief appearances and a start for the Yankees in 2005.

Proctor will start on Thursday against the visiting Texas Rangers. The only thing keeping the 28-year-old righthander from being the Yankees' announced starter was the possibility that he might have to pitch on Wednesday. He didn't work New York's 2-1 10-inning loss to the White Sox, so he'll be the first of a likely string of relievers who will face the Texas Rangers in the opener of a four-game set.

Looking for some help for their overworked bullpen, the Yankees recalled Proctor from Triple-A Columbus in time for Tuesday's game against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. The righthander was put to work immediately, tossing two innings of relief after the struggling Randy Johnson was removed from the game. He allowed three runs -- one earned -- on three hits, while striking out two and walking two.
