Quintero will be sidelined for the next several weeks after undergoing surgery on Wednesday to repair a broken hamate bone in his left wrist. The Astros' catcher is expected to be fully recovered by the start of spring training.

The Astros actviated Quintero from the 15-day disabled list on Saturday. The catcher, who has been sidelined since udnergoing an appendectomy, has played in just five games with the Astros this season, chalking up one hit in 16 at bats.

According to Astros manager Phil Garner, Quintero is expected to be sidelined for the next 3-4 weeks after undergoing an appendectomy over the weekend. As a result, the club has placed the backup catcher on the 15-day disabled list and purchased the contract of Raul Chavez from Triple-A Round Rock.

Quintero has been recalled from Triple-A Round Rock by the Houston Astros, replacing the struggling Raul Chavez, who was designated for assignment on Wednesday. In 45 games with the minor league club this season, Quintero was batting .299 with seven home runs and 25 RBI.
