3/25/2006

Tsao threw 25 pitches off a mound Friday in his first bullpen session this spring. He underwent rotator cuff surgery early last season.

As scheduled, Tsao underwent arthroscopic surgery on Wednesday to repair a labrum tear in his pitching shoulder. The Rockies' righthander, who will be sidelined indefinitely, has been transferred from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day DL. The club will turn to Brian Fuentes in the majority of save situations going forward.

The Colorado Rockies announced on Friday that Tsao will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder. The surgery to repair a labrum tear has been scheduled for Wednesday. The 23-year-old righthander began the year on the disabled list because of shoulder inflammation, and his shoulder woes returned this month.

After seeking two opinions, Tsao has been diagnosed with a possible tear in the labrum of his pitching shoulder. The Rockies' closer will discuss his options with the team's medical staff over the next couple of days before making a final decision on his next step. Surgery has not been ruled out. In 10 relief appearances this season, Tsao is 1-0 with a 6.55 ERA and three saves.

Tsao is headed back to the disabled list, as the Rockies placed him on the 15-day DL with an inflammation in his right shoulder. Tsao returned to the team just over a month ago after sitting out the first two weeks of the season with the same injury. There is some suspiscion that Tsao has at least a partial tear of his right labrum. The three-year veteran pitched in 10 games this season going 1-0 and posting a 6.55 ERA while saving three games.

A few possible options that the Rockies have to take over the closer role for Tsao are newly acquired Blaine Neal, or possibly even Byung-Hyun Kim, Shawn Chacon, and Jose Acevedo, all who have former closing experience. The Rockies are hoping a strengthening program will help the muscles in the shoulder enough so that Tsao can avoid surgery.

As anticipated, Tsao has been activated from the 15-day disabled list by the Colorado Rockies and will be available for Tuesday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The righthander, who has been sidelined since late in spring training with tendinitis and inflammation in the rotator cuff in his pitching shoulder, will reclaim the closer duties, according to manager Clint Hurdle.

Lefthanded reliever Javier Lopez was optioned to Triple-A Colorado Springs to open a spot on the active roster. In 10 relief appearances last season, Tsao posted a 3.86 ERA, notched one save and struck out 11 batters in 9.1 innings.
