Ryan Wagner

10/17/2005

Wagner, who last pitched in a game on July 7 because of shoulder tendinitis, has been throwing well and impressing Cincinnati officials in instructional league outings this fall. Reds GM Dan O'Brien says that Wagner has made adjustments to his delivery that should make him a contributor in 2006. In 42 games this season, he was 3-2 with a 6.11 ERA.

Wagner, on the disabled list with shoulder inflammation since July 15, will not pitch for the Reds again this year. He'll throw one more simulated session for Cincinnati coaches and then go to the instructional league in Florida. In 42 games this season, he was 3-2 with a 6.11 ERA.

Wagner reported no major problems after throwing off a mound on Tuesday, as he continues to work his way back from inflammation in his pitching shoulder. The Reds' righthander, who has missed more than a month with the injury, has a bullpen session scheduled for later this week. He's still a couple weeks away from returning to the Cincinnati bullpen.

The Cincinnati Reds on Friday placed Wagner on the 15-day disabled list with a sore right shoulder. The young righthander, who turned 23 on Friday, has struggled since early June, and he is 3-2 with a 6.11 ERA in 42 games this season. He has been bothered by shoulder discomfort for roughly a month.

With Danny Graves being designated for assignment on Monday, the Reds likely will turn to Wagner in the majority of save situations going forward. The righthander, who doesn't turn 23 until mid-July, was tabbed as the franchise's closer of the future after being selected with the 14th overall pick in the 2003 Draft. However, he has yet to record a save in 88 relief appearances.
