Luis Terrero

7/7/2006

The Orioles purchased Terrero's contract from Triple-A Ottawa on Thursday. The 26-year-old outfielder has appeared in 12 games for Baltimore this season.

Terrero, who was out of options this spring, has been placed on waivers and will be released by the Arizona Diamondbacks. Once a highly regarded prospect, the 25-year-old outfielder has been squeezed out by outfield depth in the Arizona system. He has batted .239 with little power in 155 games with the Diamondbacks.

Terrero hasn't been productive in major league stints in 2004 and this summer, batting .248 with a .319 on-base percentage in 363 at-bats. He may get another look in September after Arizona was swept in a weekend series against San Francisco.

After missing more than three weeks with a strained left groin, Terrero was activated from the 15-day disabled list and was in the Diamondbacks' starting lineup for Tuesday's meeting with the San Francisco Giants. The outfielder went 0-for-3 in his return and is now batting .239 with two home runs, eight RBI and two stolen bases in 35 games this season.

The Arizona Diamondbacks placed outfielder Luis Terrero on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday with a left groin strain, three days after he was injured beating out a grounder at Philadelphia on Sunday. Manager Bob Melvin said an MRI exam on Wednesday morning found damage to Terrero's groin tendon.
