Miguel Cabrera

7/23/2006

Cabrera has hit safely in five straight games after being in a 2-for-29 slump.

7/16/2006

Cabrera, batting .080 (2-for-25) in his last eight games, was given the day off Sunday. He had a string of 20 straight games of reaching base end after going 0-for-4 on Saturday.

7/3/2006

Cabrera was selected to his third All-Star team Sunday and will be a reserve third baseman for the National League. He is hitting .344 with 13 homers and 55 RBIs this season.

In a bizarre play, Cabrera reached across the plate and hit an intentional ball from Baltimore Orioles reliever Todd Williams for a 10th-inning RBI single, helping the Marlins rally past the Orioles 8-5 on Thursday.

3/2/2006

Cabrera has agreed to a one-year, $472,000 contract with the Florida Marlins. In his third season with Florida in 2005, Cabrera batted .323 with 33 home runs and 116 RBIs. It was his second straight 33-homer season, and the 22-year-old star collected 112 RBIs in 2004.

Even with the Florida Marlins on the verge of being eliminated from the postseason, Cabrera didn't play in Monday's 4-0 loss to Washington. The Marlins' slugger has been benched for disciplinary reasons, which manager Jack McKeon didn't reveal before Monday's game.

The playoff hopes of the Florida Marlins have taken a hit with six losses in their last seven games. They took another hit on Wednesday, when Cabrera was forced to leave the game in the first inning after fouling a ball off his left knee. The league's third-leading hitter at .321, the Marlins' third baseman completed the at-bat by striking out, then left with a contusion to his knee.

Cabrera improved his season average to .355 and finished a triple shy of hitting for the cycle, going a perfect 4-for-4 in Thursday's victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. The Marlins' 22-year-old outfielder finished the game with a homer, double, two singles, two RBI and two runs scored.

7/20/2005

Despite striking out three times, Cabrera went 2-for-5 with a pair of solo home runs in Tuesday's victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks, notching his third multihomer game of the 2005 campaign. The Marlins' outfielder actually has seen his batting average drop this month, hitting a still-respectable .308. He batted .345 in April, .365 in May and .324 in June.

6/24/2005

Cabrera extended his hitting streak to seven games, going 4-for-5 with three runs scored in Thursday's 8-0 victory over the Atlanta Braves. The Marlins' outfielder belted a pair of home runs and finished the contest with a career-high six RBI. He now has four multihomer games in his major league career.

5/4/2005

Cabrera has been on a tear since Marlins manager Jack McKeon shifted him from third to fourth in the batting order a couple of weeks ago. Now hitting behind slugger Carlos Delgado, the outfielder is 21-for-50 (.420) with eight doubles, two home runs, 13 RBI and 12 runs scored over his last 12 starts. The Marlins have posted a 10-2 record in those games.

Prior to the change, Cabrera was batting .262. In 24 contests overall this season, he is hitting .355 with five homers and 22 RBI.

Following Monday's loss to the Philadelphia Phillies, Cabrera was receiving some treatment on his left ankle after fouling a ball of his leg in the first inning. The Marlins' outfielder, who turns just 22 next Monday, said the injury is minor, and he does not expect to miss any time.

Through seven games, Cabrera is 8-for-30 with two home runs and five RBI. Last season -- his first full major league campaign -- he hit .294 with 33 homers, 112 RBI and five stolen bases in 160 contests.
