Matt Kata

7/22/2005

The Arizona Diamondbacks have traded Kata to the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for veteran reliever Tim Worrell. In 30 games (31 at-bats) at the major league level this season, the infielder is hitting .194 with a pair of doubles and no homers or RBI. With Triple-A Tucson, he was batting .312 with three home runs and 28 RBI in 45 contests.

With outfielder Luis Gonzalez returning from the bereavement list, the Arizona Diamondbacks have optioned Kata back to Triple-A Tucson to open a spot on the roster. The infielder has appeared in 30 games with the major league club this season, going 6-for-31 (.194) with two doubles and a triple.

Kata has been recalled from Triple-A Tucson by the Arizona Diamondbacks, filling the roster spot of injured closer Brandon Lyon. The infielder was with the major league club earlier this season, going 5-for-23 with a double, triple and five walks in 21 games.

Needing to open a roster spot for outfielder Jose Cruz Jr, the Arizona Diamondbacks have optioned Kata to Triple-A Tucson. The switch-hitting infielder has seen limited action this season, batting .200 with a double and triple in 21 games (25 at-bats).

Joining the minor league club will allow Kata to play on a daily basis and hopefully regain his stroke at the plate.
