Jeremy Bonderman

6/20/2006

Bonderman matched his season high with 12 strikeouts as the Tigers beat Milwaukee 3-1 on Monday night. The right-hander struck out six straight batters at one point, one short of the team record, and allowed only four hits and three walks. He became the first Tigers starter since Mickey Lolich to strike out 12 or more batters in consecutive games, having fanned 12 Devil Rays in his last start.

Bonderman agreed to a one-year deal with the Tigers on Tuesday, avoiding salary arbitration. He went 14-13 with a 4.57 ERA and 145 strikeouts in 29 starts last season. The right-hander tied for second in the AL with four complete games.

After a bout of elbow stiffness, Bonderman made his first start in two weeks on Monday. The budding Tigers ace had a rough outing in Kansas City, allowing 11 hits and seven earned runs in 4.2 innings. The loss dropped the 22-year-old righthander's record to 14-13 in 29 starts. His ERA rose to 4.57.

Bonderman played catch Tuesday for the first time since reporting stiffness in his right elbow last week. He will work a bullpen session on Wednesday. While the Detroit righthander won't be ready for the four-game set against the Angels, which begins on Thursday, he could return to the Tigers' rotation next week.

After missing his scheduled start Friday with soreness in his pitching elbow, it is possible Bonderman may now miss his next start as well, even though the pitcher reported that his arm was feeling better. Bonderman is 14-12 with a 4.35 ERA this season.

9/9/2005

Bonderman won't make his Friday start against Kansas City because of a sore elbow. The Detroit Tigers believe their budding ace will return before the season is over, but he won't pitch against the Royals this weekend.

Bonderman was hit in the right wrist by a line drive off the bat of Marco Scutaro in the fourth inning of last night's game against the Oakland Athletics and was forced to leave the game. Subsequent X-rays proved negative, but Bonderman may miss a start to recover from the bruise.

7/26/2005

Bonderman dropped his appeal of a five-game suspension for his role in last Sunday's bench-clearing scuffle between Detroit and Kansas City and began serving the penalty on Monday. The Tigers' righthander is not expected to miss a start, however, as his next scheduled outing has been bumped from Saturday to Sunday.

7/22/2005

On Thursday, Major League Baseball fined and suspended Bonderman for five games for his role in Sunday's bench-clearing scuffle between Detroit and Kansas City. The Tigers' starter would miss only one start if he serves his time, but he said he plans to appeal his penalty. Bonderman, who is 12-6 with a 4.05 ERA this season, can make his scheduled starts until his appeal has been heard and ruled on.

6/22/2005

Bonderman notched his first complete game of the season and third of his major league career, tossing nine solid innings in Tuesday's victory over the Minnesota Twins. The Tigers' righthander allowed two runs on five hits, struck out a season-high nine batters and walked two.
