Todd Linden

9/12/2005

Linden looked the Giants' outfielder who would sit when Barry Bonds returns to the San Francisco lineup on Monday. The plan was to move Moises Alou to right field and push Linden to the bench. That scenario is on hold -- at least temporarily -- after Alou suffered a groin injury on Sunday. He is likely to miss at least Monday's game, possibly a few more, so Linden probably remains in right field for the time being.

Linden has been recalled from Triple-A Fresno by the San Francisco Giants, replacing veteran Moises Alou, who is on the shelf with a strained right hamstring. The 25-year-old outfielder has appeared in 17 games with the Giants this season, batting .172 with two home runs and seven RBI. He's fanned 20 times in 58 at-bats.

On Monday, the San Francisco Giants optioned Linden to Triple-A Fresno to make room on the 25-man roster for LaTroy Hawkins, who came off the disabled list. Linden spent three weeks with the Giants, batting .172 (10-for-58) with four doubles, two homers and seven RBI.

The San Francisco Giants placed Marquis Grissom on the 15-day disabled list Monday and recalled Linden to replace him in the Giants' outfield. Linden, in the midst of a terrific season at Triple-A Fresno, will take over in left field for the Giants. The 24-year-old Linden was batting .326 and had at least a share of the league lead with 19 homers and 58 RBI in 62 games.
