Joe Valentine

9/5/2005

The Cincinnati Reds recalled Valentine from Triple-A Louisville on Monday. With the Reds earlier in the season, the 25-year-old righthander was 0-1 with a 9.53 ERA in 12 relief appearances.

Over his last four relief appearances, Valentine has recorded a loss, blown a save and allowed nine runs on eight hits, including three home runs, in just 2.2 innings of work. The righthander's struggles have prompted the Cincinnati Reds to option him to Triple-A Louisville and fill the opening in the bullpen with Ricky Stone.

Overall this season, Valentine has pitched in 12 games, going 0-1 with a 9.53 ERA. He could be back with the major league club later this season, if he can show some better control with Louisville.
