The Arizona Diamondbacks designated Gosling for assignment Tuesday in order to make room for free-agent outfielder Jeff DaVanon. In his second season, the left-hander was 0-3 with a 4.45 ERA in 13 games (five starts). Arizona has 10 days to trade him, send him outright to the minor leagues or place him on waivers.

Gosling has been optioned to Triple-A Tucson by the Arizona Diamondbacks, opening a spot on the roster for catcher Kelly Stinnett, who was activated from the 15-day disabled list. In 13 appearances with Arizona this season, including five starts, the lefthander is 0-3 with a 4.45 ERA.

According to manager Bob Melvin, Gosling will step into the Diamondbacks' starting rotation for the time being, filling in for the injured Shawn Estes, who will be sidelined indefinitely with a stress reaction in his foot. In eight relief appearances this season, Gosling, a lefthander, is 0-2 with a 7.88 ERA.

After posting an 0-2 record and 9.00 ERA in seven relief appearances to begin the 2005 campaign, Gosling has been optioned to Triple-A Tucson by the Arizona Diamondbacks. The 24-year-old lefthander will be replaced in the bullpen by Javier Lopez, who was called up from the minor league club on Sunday.
