Jason Davis

7/5/2005

The Cleveland Indians recalled Davis to start the second game of their July 4 doubleheader with Detroit, and the 25-year-old righthander responded with six shutout innings of four-hit ball and the "W" in the Indians' 6-0 blanking of the Tigers. Davis, who started the season in the majors but struggled, now is 4-2 with a 4.69 ERA in 11 games (four starts) for the Tribe.

After an impressive spot start by Davis on Monday, the Cleveland Indians have returned the 25-year-old righthander to Triple-A Buffalo. Davis limited Detroit to four hits and two walks over six scoreless innings and claimed a 6-0 victory. He struck out five.

Davis, who started the season with Cleveland but struggled, will be recalled from Triple-A Buffalo to start the second game of the Indians' doubleheader with Detroit Monday. The 25-year-old righthander was 3-2 with a 5.50 ERA in 10 games (three starts) for Cleveland. At Buffalo, Davis was a far more respectable 3-1 with a 3.77 ERA in five starts.

To make room for Kevin Millwood's return from the disabled list, the Cleveland Indians optioned Davis to Triple-A Buffalo after Wednesday night's win over Colorado. Davis was 3-2 with a 5.50 ERA in 10 games (three starts) with Cleveland this season.

Davis started Saturday's game against the Chicago White Sox, just hours after the Indians recalled the pitcher from Triple-A Buffalo. Before being sent down on May 20, Davis appeared in eight games for the Indians this season, going 2-1 with a 5.56 ERA. In order to make room on the roster, Cleveland optioned Brian Tallet to the Triple-A club.

A scoring change for last night's Cleveland win over Toronto resulted in credit for the victory going to Indians pitcher Jason Davis. Bob Howry was originally credited with the win, but the game's official scorer felt that Davis deserved the win. Baseball's rule 10.19 states that when a starter fails to pitch five full innings, credit for the victory, judged by the official scorer, should go to the relief pitcher who was the most effective.

The win pushed Davis' record to 2-1 on the season, while Howry's mark drops back to 2-1.
