J.J. Davis

7/14/2005

The Washington Nationals on Wednesday dealt Davis, righthander Zach Day and a player to be named or cash considerations to the Colorado Rockies for Preston Wilson and cash considerations. Davis started the year with the Nationals as a reserve player, but had problems hitting breaking balls and was demoted to Triple-A New Orleans in early May. He was 6-for-26 (.231) for Washington, and he departs New Orleans with a .282 average, 12 home runs and 31 RBI.

The Washington Nationals have sent Davis outright to Triple-A New Orleans, opening a roster spot for infielder Henry Mateo, who will be activated from the 15-day disabled list in time for Monday's meeting with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Davis has seen limited action as a backup in the Nationals' outfield this season, going 6-for-26 (.231) with two RBI and a stolen base in 14 games.

The Nationals are fairly stocked in the outfield at this point, even with Terrmel Sledge sidelined. As a result, Davis likely won't be back with the major league club until late in the season, unless they are hit with another injury.
