Ricardo Rodriguez

3/29/2006

The Philadelphia Phillies released Rodriguez Wednesday, barely more than two months after they acquired him from Texas for veteran right-hander Vicente Padilla. Rodriguez couldn't win a spot in the starting rotation and isn't suited for the bullpen. He had a 4.15 ERA with seven walks in 13 innings this spring. In 2005, Rodriguez was 2-3 with a 5.53 ERA in 10 starts and two relief appearances for Texas.

The Texas Rangers placed Rodriguez on the 15-day disabled list with a bruised right shoulder on Tuesday. The 27-year-old righthander was hit on the meaty part of the shoulder Monday night, when Tony Graffanino sent a hard groundball back through the middle.

The Rangers called up Rodriguez from Triple-A Oklahoma on Sunday and tabbed him to start Sunday's series finale against the Marlins. The righthander was 7-3 with a 2.95 ERA in 11 starts for the Oklahoma club this season. He missed a large chunk of the 2004 campaign after undergoing an appendectomy and later suffering a fractured right elbow when he was struck by a line drive.
