Ryan Bukvich

5/11/2005

That saying about bad news coming in threes usually doesn't apply to Tommy John surgery, but it does for the Texas Rangers. Bukvich is scheduled to undergo the procedure on Friday, making him the third Rangers reliever to get his elbow rebuilt this spring. Bukvich follows Texas teammates Frank Francisco and Carlos Almanzar to the operating table.

Bukvich worked four games for Texas this spring, posting an 11.25 ERA over four innings. He won't be back until sometime in 2006.

On Sunday, the Texas Rangers put Bukvich on the 15-day disabled list with a tender throwing elbow. The 26-year-old righthander had made four appearances for Texas, working four innings, allowing five earned runs and posting a 11.25 ERA.

Taking Bukvich's place on the roster is righthander Nick Regiiio, who was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma.
