Duaner Sanchez

7/31/2006

Sanchez is out for season for the Mets after suffering a separated shoulder on Sunday, while riding in a cab that got into an accident near the team's hotel in Miami. The reliever is 5-1 with a 2.60 ERA and 44 strikeouts in 55 1-3 innings over 49 relief appearances this season.

Sanchez is day-to-day with a pinched nerve in his neck, New York announced Saturday. The Mets' right-handed reliever threw just two pitches in the eighth inning of Friday's win over Toronto before leaving with the injury. He was evaluated by team doctors on Saturday and an MRI on his right shoulder was negative.

Due to Yhency Brazoban's recent struggles, the Dodgers will turn to Sanchez and Steve Schmoll in save situations for the time being, according to manager Jim Tracy. In 60 relief appearances this season, Sanchez is 3-4 with a 3.98 ERA. He has yet to record a save in 142 career outings.
