Erik Bedard

7/21/2006

Bedard missed his scheduled start against Tampa Bay on Friday because of food poisoning. The Orioles' left-hander was replaced by Russ Ortiz. Baltimore manager Sam Perlozzo hopes Bedard will be able to start Sunday versus the Devil Rays.

6/28/2006

Bedard ran his scoreless innings streak to 16 as Baltimore beat Philadelphia 7-4 on Wednesday. The left-hander allowed only five hits and won his third straight start since adding a changeup to his repertoire. He's allowed only three runs and 15 hits in 21 innings in those outings.

4/21/2006

Bedard remained unbeaten Thursday, allowing six hits and three earned runs over six innings in Baltimore's 9-4 victory over Cleveland. The Orioles' left-hander, who hasn't allowed more than three earned runs and has worked three quality starts, improved to 4-0 on the season. He has a 2.77 ERA in his four outings.

4/11/2006

Bedard tossed seven scoreless innings, allowing four hits and striking out five, in the Orioles' 6-3 win over the Tampa Bay Devil Rays on Monday.

1/17/2006

Bedard agreed to a $1.4 million, one-year contract with the Orioles on Tuesday, avoiding salary arbitration. The left-hander can receive additional money in bonuses. He suffered through an injury-plagued 2005, going 6-8 with a 4.00 ERA in 24 starts.

7/19/2005

It was a successful return for Bedard, after missing nearly two months with a strained MCL in his left knee. The 26-year-old southpaw worked six scoreless innings for the Orioles, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out seven. He departed after the Orioles scored twice in the top of the seventh to take a 2-0 lead Monday night, but the Twins tied the game before the O's pulled out a 3-2, 11-inning victory.

7/18/2005

As anticipated, the Baltimore Orioles activated Bedard from the disabled list Monday, in time to start the evening's showdown with the Minnesota Twins at the Metrodome. The 26-year-old lefthander went on the DL on May 26 with a strained MCL in his left knee. Prior to his injury, he was one of the hottest pitchers in the American League, and he returns with a 5-1 mark and a 2.08 ERA in nine games.

7/13/2005

Bedard reported no problems after tossing five shutout innings in a minor league rehab start with Class-A Delmarva on Tuesday. The Orioles' lefthander surrendered just three hits in the outing, striking out nine and walking one. Barring any last-minute setbacks, he will be activated from the 15-day disabled list in time to start Monday's meeting with the Minnesota Twins. For the season, Bedard is 5-1 with a 2.08 ERA in nine games.

7/9/2005

Baltimore is targeting July 18 for Bedard's return to the rotation. The pitcher, who is on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained left knee, is scheduled to make another rehab appearance with Double-A Bowie on Sunday.

7/7/2005

Rehabbing a strained ligament in his left knee, Bedard will pitch two innings Wednesday in a rehabilitation start for Double-A Bowie. The Orioles' lefthander probably will need two or three rehab outings before he is ready to return to the Baltimore rotation.

6/28/2005

The Baltimore Orioles had to slow down Bedard's rehab program when the strained ligament in his left knee was healing slower than anticipated. The O's lefty threw off flat ground on Monday, a first step toward going on a minor league rehab assignment. He'll need some minor league time after more than a month on the sidelines, and he may be ready to return to the Orioles' rotation near the All-Star break.

6/7/2005

On the disabled list with a strained ligament in his left knee, Bedard could start a minor league rehab assignment as soon as this weekend. The Orioles' lefthander, who went on the DL on May 26, is 5-1 with a 2.08 ERA in nine starts this season. He hasn't pitched since shutting out the Phillies for seven innings on May 21.

5/26/2005

Baltimore's top starter this season, Bedard was placed on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with a strained ligament in his left knee. While an MRI exam showed no structural damage, the 26-year-old lefty has been pitching with discomfort in recent weeks because of a strained medial collateral ligament. The pain got to be too much since his last start against Philadelphia last weekend. The move is retroactive to Sunday and Bedard is expected to miss two or three starts.
