Mark Teixeira

7/14/2006

Teixeira hit a career-high three homers and drove in seven runs in the Rangers' 15-1 rout of the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday. "Same thing I've said all year: My swing has not changed one bit. I've looked at hours and hours of video," Teixeira said. "There's a fine line between a home run and a line drive. Tonight I just kind of found that home run stroke."

Teixeira ended June with 12 doubles, breaking the Rangers franchise record for doubles in that month, previously held by Rusty Greer (1997) and Ruben Sierra (1989), who both had 11. The first baseman has gotten off to a slow start this season, hitting .272 with eight homers and 45 RBIs, a year after batting .301 with 43 homers and 144 RBIs.

Teixeira and the Rangers agreed on a $15.4 million, two-year contract on Tuesday, avoiding salary arbitration. The All-Star first baseman hit .301 with 43 homers and 144 RBIs. He set a record for most RBIs by a switch-hitter, breaking George Davis' record of 136, set in 1896 when Davis played for the New York Giants.

In the Rangers' 8-6 win over Seattle Sunday, Teixeira hit a three-run bomb and a solo shot, giving him two homers and four RBI on the day. His four ribbies moved him into a first-place tie atop the American League RBI leader board. He and Boston's David Ortiz finished Sunday's action with 132 RBI each.

Teixeira's game-winning three-run homer for Texas on Tuesday was the 100th of the first baseman's major league career. With 100 home runs in his first three big league seasons, Teixeira joins an elite group with just four other members: Joe DiMaggio, Ralph Kiner, Eddie Mathews and Albert Pujols.

Teixeira swatted two home runs among his four hits, driving in six runs, as the Rangers prevailed in a 12-10 slugfest over the Blue Jays Saturday. The All-Star first baseman now leads the American League with 24 round trippers.

Teixeira hit two of the Rangers' eight home runs in Thursday's 18-5 Texas romp over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. The Rangers' first baseman stroked a pair of two-run shots and now leads the American League with 22 homers. He is batting .291 in 77 games this season, with 60 runs scored and 64 RBI.

After hitting a pair of home runs on Saturday and stroking another on Sunday, Teixeira has taken over the major league lead in home runs with 20. For the season, the Rangers' star first baseman is batting .296 with 54 runs scored and 56 RBI in 67 games.

Teixeira continued his red-hot hitting on Sunday, doubling and homering in five trips to the plate in Texas' 8-1 victory over Kansas City. In his last 17 games dating back to May 16, the Rangers' first baseman is a .400 hitter (28-for-70) with eight doubles, six home runs, 16 runs scored and 20 RBI. He's slugging .800 over that span.
