Ryan Drese

4/17/2006

The Nationals' Web site is reporting that an MRI exam of Drese's tender right elbow has revealed a flexor tendon strain. Surgery is not needed, but the 30-year-old right-hander is expected to miss four to six weeks of action. He was coming back from offseason shoulder surgery and had made two starts for Washington. He was 0-2 with a 5.19 ERA.

With right-hander Pedro Astacio out for most or all of April with a forearm injury, Drese is expected to come off the disabled list to take his spot in the Washington rotation. Drese has been slow to come around following offseason shoulder surgery, but the veteran right-hander, who turns 30 Wednesday, could make his first start of the season on April 9 against Houston. He would pitch five or six innings in that game.

The Washington Nationals placed Drese on the 15-day disabled list Monday. The 29-year-old right-hander had offseason shoulder surgery, and he hasn't come around enough to be ready to start the season. Drese was 7-12 with a 5.78 ERA in 23 starts for Texas and Washington in 2005.

3/14/2006

Drese, who underwent offseason shoulder surgery, hasn't come around as quickly as the Washington Nationals had hoped. The 29-year-old right-hander is likely to start the new season on the disabled list. He was 7-12 with a 5.78 ERA in 23 starts for Texas and Washington in 2005.

Drese, suffering from right shoulder tendinitis, was transferred to the Nationals' 60-day disabled list.

8/24/2005

Due to lingering soreness in his pitching shoulder, Drese has been placed on the 15-day disabled list by the Washington Nationals, retroactive to August 19. The righthander is 3-6 with a 4.98 ERA in 11 starts since joining the Nationals, but has taken the loss in his last five decisions. He will be replaced on the roster by reliever Travis Hughes.

6/16/2005

After allowing at least five runs in four of his five previous starts, Drese was a different man in his Washington Nationals debut. On Wednesday night, the 29-year-old righthander limited the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim to two hits and four walks over eight scoreless innings for a 1-0 Washington win. Drese improved his overall record to 5-6 between Texas and Washington, with a 5.79 ERA in 13 starts. He was claimed on waivers by the Nationals on June 10.

6/14/2005

While Drese was expected to get some work out of the Washington bullpen before making a start, that plan has changed. Drese will start for the Nationals on Wednesday, when he faces Bartolo Colon and the Angels in an interleague game.

6/10/2005

On the same day that they traded righthander Tomo Ohka to Milwaukee, the Washington Nationals claimed Drese off waivers from Texas. Drese was 4-6 with a 6.46 ERA in 12 starts for the Rangers.

6/8/2005

After allowing five runs on eight hits in just 2.2 innings in a loss to the Phillies on Tuesday, Drese has been designated for assignment by the Texas Rangers. The righthander has struggled most of the season, going 4-6 with a 6.46 ERA. Reliever Nick Regilio was recalled from the minor leagues to replace Drese on the roster.
