Alex Cintron

1/18/2006

Cintron agreed to a $1.6 million, one-year deal with Arizona on Tuesday, avoiding salary arbitration. The shortstop hit .273 with eight home runs and 48 RBIs in 2005.

Cintron left Arizona's loss to Colorado Sunday in the fourth inning, after fouling a pitch off his kneecap. The utility infielder, subbing for starter Royce Clayton at short, lost feeling in the leg for about 10 minutes. He was replaced by Andy Green.

Cintron, who has been out since Saturday because of a sprained ligament in his left wrist, should be available to play for Arizona on Wednesday. The 26-year-old outfielder hit off a tee, played soft toss and took batting practice on Tuesday.

Cintron was unavailable again Monday against the Chicago White Sox because of a sprained ligament in his left wrist. The Arizona outfielder will be re-evaluated Tuesday, and if he wakes up feeling as good as he did Monday, he could be available for Tuesday night's showdown between the Diamondbacks and White Sox.

Cintron suffered a strained left wrist while singling to right field in the seventh inning on Saturday, and the backup outfielder was unavailable for Arizona's loss to Kansas City Sunday. He was examined by hand specialist Dr. Don Sheridan on Sunday and found to have inflammation in the cartilage on the left side of his wrist.
