Joaquin Benoit

1/11/2006

Benoit and the Texas Rangers reached an agreement Wednesday on a one-year, $750,000 contract. The 28-year-old right-hander went 4-4 with a 3.72 ERA in 32 games last season.

Benoit had to leave the Texas Rangers' loss to Minnesota on Wednesday because of soreness in his pitching shoulder. The Rangers' reliever will be evaluated soon, and it's quite possible that the 28-year-old righthander will be shut down for the rest of the year. He is 3-4 with a 4.08 ERA in nine starts and 13 relief appearances.

After pitching lights out as a member of the Texas bullpen this season, Benoit will start against the New York Yankees Wednesday in Arlington. The 27-year-old righthander, who missed three weeks in June with elbow tendinitis, is 1-0 with a 0.69 ERA in 11 appearances for the Rangers. He has allowed just 10 hits and 10 walks while fanning 27 in 26 innings.

After missing three weeks with elbow tendinitis, Benoit was activated from the disabled list by the Texas Rangers on Tuesday. The 27-year-old reliever, who has been bothered by bouts of tendinitis since early in spring training, worked a scoreless inning of relief for the Rangers Tuesday night. Benoit allowed a walk and struck out one.

The Rangers placed Benoit on the 15-day disabled list on Sunday due to tendinitis in his pitching elbow. This is the second DL stint of the season for the righthanded reliever, who was limited earlier in the year with shoulder tendinitis. Benoit has made just six appearances in 2005 for Texas, though he has allowed just one earned run in 14.1 innings.

Benoit, who just came off the disabled list after a bout of shoulder tendinitis that has bothered him since early in spring training, now has a tender right elbow. The discomfort may not require another stint on the DL, but you may want to avoid the 27-year-old righthander and his arm woes.

5/2/2005

Bothered by shoulder tendinitis since early in spring training, Benoit was activated from the disabled list on Sunday. The Rangers' righthander was 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA in three appearances for Triple-A Oklahoma of the Pacific Coast League before he was activated.

Benoit takes the roster spot vacated by reliever Carlos Almanzar, who went on the 15-day disabled list Sunday for elbow inflammation.

4/4/2005

After being limited most of spring training by stiffness in his pitching shoulder, Benoit has been placed on the 15-day disabled list by the Texas Rangers. The righthander, who was 3-5 with a 5.68 ERA in 28 appearances last season, including 15 starts, is expected to be out until late April or early May.
