Ichiro Suzuki

7/3/2006

Seattle's Suzuki was selected to his sixth All-Star team on Sunday, as the starting center fielder for the American League. Suzuki is batting .359 with 11 homers and 30 RBIs this season.

6/18/2006

Suzuki singled in the first inning on Sunday against the San Francisco Giants to extend his hitting streak to 18 games, tying his AL-best streak. The Seattle Mariners outfielder is batting .363 with 22 RBIs this season.

10/1/2005

By going 4-5 on Friday, Ichiro reached the 200-hit mark for the fifth straight season. He becomes just the sixth player in ML history with 200+ hits in five straight seasons.

9/26/2005

With six games remaining in Seattle's season, Ichiro is four hits from reaching the 200-hit plateau for the fifth consecutive season. Only five players in major league history have accomplished the feat. The last was Wade Boggs in 1989, when he finished a string of seven straight 200-hit seasons. The others are Willie Keeler (eight), Chuck Klein (five), Al Simmons (five) and Charlie Gehringer (five).

8/31/2005

With a home run in each of the last two games, Ichiro has set a career high for home runs in a season. His previous high had been 13 in 2003, but he has surpassed that with 15 this season.

7/31/2005

Ichiro belted a pair of home runs in the Mariners' 3-2 win over the Cleveland Indians Saturday, breaking Paul Waner's 75-year-old record for most hits in his first five major league seasons. He now has 1,059 career hits with 49 games still left on the schedule.

7/11/2005

Ichiro saw a boost to his power numbers in June, belting three home runs and recording 11 RBI in 26 games. However, the Mariners' outfielder posted a batting average of just .243 and on-base percentage of .261. He's turned things around in July, batting .450 with a .500 on-base percentage in the first 10 games of the month.

6/15/2005

Ichiro singled in the first inning Tuesday night to record the 1,000th hit of his major league career. The Mariners' right fielder reached the plateau in his 696th game with Seattle. The milestone came in the midst of a 7-for-43 skid (.163), and Ichiro is batting .295 for the season.

4/18/2005

Ichiro continues to pile up the hits. The Seattle right fielder has been held hitless just once this season, and he has nine multihit performances in 12 games. On Sunday, he collected his first homer of 2005, a first-inning leadoff shot in the Mariners' 5-4 win over the White Sox. For the season, Ichiro is 21-for-47 (.447), and he trails only an equally red-hot Brian Roberts (.449) in the American League batting race.

4/14/2005

Ichiro went 0-for-4 against the Royals Wednesday, stalling his hitting streak at 20 games. He last went hitless in a game on September 19 against Oakland. During his 20-game run, which included the first seven games of 2005, Ichiro batted .448 (39-for-87) with five steals and 17 runs scored. So far this season, Seattle's right fielder is a .406 hitter (13-for-32) with seven runs scored in eight games.

4/12/2005

Ichiro now has hit safely in all seven games for Seattle, giving him a 20-game hitting streak that dates back to 2004. He's had a pair of hits in six of seven contests this season, and the Mariners' right fielder is batting .464 (13-for-28) to lead the American League.

Perhaps Ichiro has George Sisler in his sites again. The longest hitting streak to start a season belongs to Sisler, though Ichiro is far off from his 34-game run to open the 1925 season.

4/11/2005

Ichiro has hit safely in all six games of the young season. Seattle's right fielder recorded a pair of hits in each of the first five contests before being held to a mere 1-for-4 in Sunday's 7-6 Mariners loss to Texas.

Ichiro closed the 2004 season with a 13-game hitting streak, so his run has been extended to 19 games. He's 11-for-23 (.478) on the new season, with seven runs scored and three stolen bases. He also has three walks and a .538 on-base percentage so far in 2005.
