Michael Young

7/13/2006

Young hit a two-run triple in the ninth inning off the Padres' Trevor Hoffman that led the AL to a 3-2 victory Tuesday night in the All-Star Game held in Pittsburgh. The win gave the AL home-field advantage in the World Series for the fourth straight year. "I'm not going to lie, this is a pretty big highlight in my baseball career," Young said. "We're all aware of how important this game is."

Texas' Young was selected to his third All-Star team on Sunday, as a reserve shortstop for the American League. Young is batting .315 with five homers and 51 RBIs this season.

With a fifth-inning single in Thursday's 4-3 Texas loss to Seattle, Young extended his hitting streak to 25 games. The Rangers' shortstop ended his run of multihit games at four, but he'll take his 25-game run home to face the Angels in the final series of the 2005 season. During his streak, Young is a .392 hitter with 13 extra-base hits and 23 runs scored.

With his fourth straight multihit game on Wednesday, Young extended his hitting streak to 24 games in a 7-3 win over the Seattle Mariners. The Texas shortstop is 39-for-98 (.398) during his streak, with 22 runs scored and 16 RBI.

With a two-hit game against Seattle on Tuesday, Young has a 23-game hitting streak. The Texas shortstop is batting .398 (37-for-93) during his run, which includes 13 extra-base hits and a .624 slugging mark. He's zeroing in on his first batting title, as he's hitting .334 to lead the American League.

Young collected two hits in Oakland on Monday night, giving the Texas shortstop a 22-game hitting streak. Batting .398 during his 22-game run, Young also has 11 walks and has scored 22 runs. He has scored at least one run in each of his last nine games for the Rangers.

After the Texas Rangers lost to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Monday night, Young left the team to rejoin his wife in Texas for the birth of their second child. It seems certain the Rangers' shortstop, who is batting .316 with eight homers and 34 RBI, will miss the rest of the series with the Angels during the week.

It seems certain the Rangers' shortstop, who is batting .316 with eight homers and 34 RBI, will miss the rest of the series with the Angels during the week. Mark DeRosa will fill in during Young's absence.

Young continues to sizzle. With two hits in the Rangers' 8-5 loss to Philadelphia on Tuesday, the Texas shortstop has a 16-game hitting streak in which he's 31-for-69 (.449) with 17 runs scored and 10 RBI. He's pushed his average for the season to .310, and he has eight homers and 33 RBI. He also has scored 41 runs in 55 games.

Heading into the Texas Rangers' interleague series in Philadelphia on Tuesday, Young has been red-hot with a 15-game hitting streak. The Rangers' shortstop has batted .446 (29-for-65) during his 15-game run, scoring 15 runs and driving in nine.

6/4/2005

With four hits against the Kansas City Royals on Saturday, Young extended his current batting streak to a career-high 14 straight games. The Rangers' shortstop is batting .467 during this streak.

Young went 2-for-4 against Detroit for a second straight night on Wednesday, and the Rangers' second baseman now has seven hits in his last 13 at-bats. He also has an 11-game hitting streak in which he's batting .444 (20-for-45) with nine runs scored. He's pushed his batting average to a season-high .293.

After going 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI on Tuesday night, in Texas' 8-2 win over Detroit, Young has a 10-game hitting streak in which he's batted .439 (18-for-41). He has scored eight runs and driven in six in those 10 games.

5/18/2005

After leaving Sunday's game and sitting out Monday's with a bad back, Young was back in the Texas lineup Tuesday night against the Chicago White Sox. The Rangers' shortstop went 0-for-3 and was hit by a pitch. For the season, Young is batting .252 with five home runs and 23 RBI in 39 games.

5/17/2005

After being forced out of the Rangers' loss to Minnesota on Sunday because of back pain, Young on Monday missed his first game since last August. The Texas shortstop wanted to play, but manager Buck Showalter made the final call to sit Young on a cool night in Chicago.

Consider Young day-to-day. He doesn't like to sit and has played 160 games in each of the last two seasons. His only missed games in 2004 were August 3-4, when he also nursed a sore back.

5/16/2005

Young left during the third inning of the Texas Rangers' loss to Minnesota Sunday because of a stiff back. The Rangers' shortstop said later that he expects to be back in the lineup on Monday in Chicago, but cool temperatures in the Midwest may have Texas manager Buck Showalter thinking more conservatively about getting Young back into the lineup.

4/11/2005

After going 3-for-4 with two RBI and a stolen base in a 7-6 Texas win over Seattle on Sunday, Young has hit safely in all six games the Rangers have played. The Texas shortstop is batting .346 (9-for-26) after his big day on Sunday, but his only extra-base hit is an Opening Day double. He has four walks and has fanned just once on the season.
