Reggie Taylor

7/25/2005

The Tampa Bay Devil Rays have released Taylor. The former Phillies prospect was 4-for-22 (.182) in 11 games with the Rays this season, marking his first major league experience since playing 100 games for Cincinnati in 2003. The 28-year-old Taylor also had batted .261 with seven home runs and 35 RBI in 67 games this season for the Rays' Triple-A affiliate at Durham.

On Thursday, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays designated Taylor for assignment, in order to make room on the 25-man roster for DH-corner infielder Eric Munson. Taylor's stint in the majors, his first since 2003, lasted a little more than two weeks. In 11 games with the Rays, the 28-year-old Taylor was 4-for-22 (.182) with two doubles and two runs scored.

Taylor started in center field on Tuesday, the day he was recalled and DH Josh Phelps was designated for assignment by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. The 28-year-old former Phillies prospect doubled in three trips, scoring a run and also driving in a run in a 9-7 loss to Cincinnati.

Taylor, a one-time top prospect of the Philadelphia Phillies, has been recalled by Tampa Bay from Triple-A Durham. The 28-year-old outfielder was enjoying one of his best Triple-A seasons this spring, batting .284 with seven homers and 31 RBI in 52 games. He got the call Tuesday, after the Rays designated DH Josh Phelps for assignment.

The Colorado Rockies have traded Taylor to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in exchange for lefthander Bobby Seay. The Rockies assigned Taylor to Triple-A Colorado Spring last week after the outfielder batted .231 with one home run, three RBI and three stolen bases in 16 exhibition games this spring.

Taylor will report to Triple-A Durham.
