Seth Etherton

5/28/2006

Etherton was acquired by the Kansas City Royals on Sunday from the San Diego Padres in exchange for a player to be named later or cash. The right-hander is expected to start for the Royals against the Oakland Athletics on Monday. He spent the 2005 season with the A's, earning a 1-1 mark with a 6.62 ERA in 17 2-3 innings over three starts.

After losing his spot in the A's starting rotation a couple days prior, Etherton was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento by the club on Sunday. The move was made to open a spot on the roster for reliever Kiko Calero, who was activated from the 15-day disabled list. In three starts with the A's this season, Etherton is 1-1 with a 6.62 ERA.

6/4/2005

Etherton has been demoted from the Oakland starting rotation, replaced by Ryan Glynn. Etherton is 1-1 with a 6.62 ERA in three starts with the A's this season.

5/18/2005

Etherton will start for Oakland on Wednesday in place of injured righthander Rich Harden. A's reliever Keiichi Yabu was in line for the start, but it fell to Etherton after Yabu was forced into service and threw 43 pitches in relief for the Red Sox on Monday night.

Recalled on Sunday to fill holes in the Oakland bullpen, Etherton possibly could start for Oakland on Wednesday instead. Keiichi Yabu was scheduled to start Wednesday in place of the injured Rich Harden, but Yabu was forced into service for two innings and 43 pitches in relief in Monday night's win over Boston.

Etherton's status is unclear, as well. His wife is scheduled to have labor induced on Thursday, the team's off day, but recent complications mean a baby delivery could happen any day now. Stay tuned.

5/16/2005

Etherton was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday, after the Oakland Athletics placed starting pitcher Rich Harden on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left oblique muscle. While Etherton was 1-2 with a 2.76 ERA in six Triple-A games, including five starts, he is expected to work out of the A's bullpen.

After pitching well in relief for Oakland, Keiichi Yabu will take Harden's start on Wednesday.
