The Los Angeles Dodgers strengthened their bullpen by acquiring Baez and fellow reliever Lance Carter from the Tampa Bay Devil Rays Saturday for two pitching prospects. Baez was Tampa Bay's closer in 2005, going 5-4 with a career-high 41 saves and a 2.86 ERA in 67 appearances.

The Devil Rays picked up their option on closer Baez, who will return to the team for 2006 to the tune of $4 million. Baez finished the year with 41 saves in 49 opportunities and a 2.86 ERA in 67 appearances, and was named to the American League All-Star team.
