Making room on the roster for Sunday's starting pitcher Woody Williams, the San Diego Padres optioned Falkenborg to their Triple-A affiliate in Portland. In his most recent appearance, the righthanded reliever allowed six runs on six hits and failed to record an out before being pulled in Saturday's loss to the Chicago Cubs.

Falkenborg has been optioned to Triple-A Portland by the San Diego Padres, opening a spot on the roster for infielder Geoff Blum, who was activated from the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday. The righthander appeared in just three games during his short stint with the major league club this season, allowing two runs on one hit and two walks in 2.1 innings of work.

Falkenborg tossed a perfect inning in Monday night's extra-inning win over the Cincinnati Reds after being recalled from Triple-A Portland earlier in the day. The 27-year-old righthander takes the roster spot of the struggling Randy Williams, who was designated for assignment by the Padres.

In 13 relief appearances with the minor league club this season, Falkenborg went 3-1 with a 1.47 ERA. He has pitched in just nine major league games in his career.
