Matt Riley

5/12/2005

After being designated for assignment late last week, Riley cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Oklahoma on Wednesday. The 25-year-old lefthander made seven relief appearances for Texas this season, going 1-0 with a 9.95 ERA. He allowed 16 hits and 10 walks in 12.2 innings.

After being limited to relief work with the big league club, Riley is expected to join the Oklahoma rotation.

Riley, acquired from Baltimore at the end of March, has been designated for assignment by the Texas Rangers. The 25-year-old lefthander stuggled in the Rangers' bullpen, going 1-0 with a 9.95 ERA in seven appearances. He allowed 16 hits and 10 walks in 12.2 innings.

The Rangers have 10 days to trade Riley, or they can hope he clears waivers and accepts an assignment to the minors. Taking Riley's spot in the pen is Kameron Loe, who was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma on Friday.
