Dave Roberts

7/6/2006

Roberts came off the disabled list on Wednesday and went 0-for-4 for the Padres in their 6-3 victory over Philadelphia. He suffered a right knee contusion on June 17 after colliding with the wall in a game against the Los Angeles Angels. Outfielder Ben Johnson was placed on the DL to make room for Roberts.

Roberts was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Sunday by San Diego, retroactive to Sunday, with a right knee contusion. The left fielder suffered the injury on Saturday attempting to make a sliding catch on a ball hit by the Angels' Dallas McPherson. Roberts missed the ball and collided with the bottom part of the outfield wall, made of concrete.

Roberts, who hasn't played since last weekend, may test his strained left quadriceps with a few at-bats this weekend. The Padres' center fielder is taking batting practice, but his quad is only 75-80 percent healthy. Roberts hopes to play to get himself tuned up for the Padres' Division Series showdown next week.

After missing more than a week with a small tear in the patella tendon in his left knee, Roberts was back in center field and at the top of the Padres' batting order for Sunday's meeting with the San Francisco Giants. The outfielder finished the contest 0-for-4 with a stolen base and run scored.

Roberts, who has been sidelined since late last week with a small tear in the patella tendon in his left knee, took batting practice with the Padres on Tuesday, and the team is optimistic that the outfielder will be able to return to the lineup within the next couple of days. He is batting .287 with six home runs, 26 RBI and 13 stolen bases in 53 games this season.

An MRI exam of the patella tendon Roberts strained on Friday revealed no significant damage. The Padres' center fielder said he has a small tear in the tendon, but it's nothing that should require surgery.

Strugging through a back and forth season with the disabled list, Roberts strained his patella tendon during Friday night's game against the Mariners. Roberts is scheduled to have an MRI on Saturday morning, and the Padres' trainers will know more once the test is completed.

6/9/2005

Roberts missed his second straight game Wednesday with soreness in his right shoulder. The Padres' center fielder felt the discomfort for the first time on Sunday, but doesn't know what caused it. The ailment isn't considered serious, but Roberts wasn't in the lineup again on Thursday afternoon, when the Padres hosted Cleveland in the finale of their interleague series. He remains day-to-day.

6/8/2005

Due to some minor soreness in his right shoulder, Roberts was absent from the Padres' lineup for Tuesday's matchup with the Cleveland Indians. The outfielder, who was replaced by Xavier Nady, came in as a pinch-runner late in the game. He is not expected to be sidelined for an extended period.

5/27/2005

Roberts helped lead the Padres to a 10-0 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday, going 4-for-5 with two doubles, four RBI and a stolen base. The hit and RBI totals for the outfielder matched career highs. For the season, he is batting .298 with nine doubles, four triples, two home runs, 19 RBI and eight stolen bases.

4/19/2005

Roberts was activated from the 15-day disabled list by the San Diego Padres in time for Monday's game against the San Francisco Giants. The outfielder, who missed the first two weeks of the season with a nagging groin injury, started in center and batted leadoff, going 2-for-4 with a walk and run scored.

With Roberts back in action, Xavier Nady will move to a backup role for the Padres. Roberts split last season between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Boston Red Sox, batting a combined .254 with four home runs, 35 RBI and 38 stolen bases in 319 at-bats.

4/15/2005

After having his minor league rehab assignment delayed for a few days as a precautionary measure, Roberts will join Single-A Lake Elsinore on Friday and play in the team's three games over the weekend. If the Padres' outfielder reports no problems with his troublesome groin, he hopes to be activated from the 15-day disabled list on Monday.

The Padres want Roberts to be 100 percent before throwing him back in the lineup. Once healthy, he is expected to start in center field and serve as the Padres' leadoff man. Until that time Xavier Nady will remain in the position for San Diego. Roberts split last season between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Boston Red Sox, batting a combined .254 with four home runs, 35 RBI and 38 stolen bases in 319 at-bats.

4/11/2005

Roberts will report to Class-A Lake Elsinore this week to begin a minor league rehab assignment, as he continues to recover from a strained groin. If no problems are reported over the next several days, the outfielder hopes to be activated from the 15-day disabled list in time to join the Padres' lineup for their weekend series with the Los Angeles Dodgers or when the team returns home for next Monday's matchup with the San Francisco Giants.

Roberts will be evaluated on a daily basis, and the Padres want him to be 100 percent before throwing him back in the lineup. Once healthy, Roberts is expected to start in center field and serve as the Padres' leadoff man. Until that time Xavier Nady will remain in center for San Diego. Roberts split last season between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Boston Red Sox, batting a combined .254 with four home runs, 35 RBI and 38 stolen bases in 319 at-bats.

4/8/2005

Roberts continues to recover from the strained groin that currently has him on the 15-day disabled list, and he has expanded his workouts to include some light jogging. He will continue to increase his baseball activities over the next several days, and barring any setbacks, might be ready for a minor league rehab assignment next week. Xavier Nady will continue to start in Roberts' absence.

Once healthy, Roberts is expected to start in center field and serve as the Padres' leadoff man. He will have the green light to steal, according to general manager Kevin Towers. Roberts split last season between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Boston Red Sox, batting a combined .254 with four home runs, 35 RBI and 38 stolen bases in 319 at-bats.

4/4/2005

The groin injury that has hobbled Roberts for more than two weeks has landed him on the 15-day disabled list to begin the 2005 regular season. The Padres' outfielder, who will be replaced in center by Xavier Nady, hopes to be back within the next couple of weeks.

The Padres are hoping for big things out of Roberts this season, especially when it comes to stolen bases. General manager Kevin Towers has mentioned that he would not be surprised if Roberts finishes the 2005 campaign with about 60 steals. However, that might be difficult if the groin problem lingers. Roberts split last season between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Boston Red Sox, batting a combined .254 with four home runs, 35 RBI and 38 stolen bases in 319 at-bats.
