Shortly after receiving his outright release from the Diamonbacks, Almanza signed a minor league contract with the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have purchased Almanza's contract from Triple-A Tuscon, replacing the struggling Javier Lopez in the bullpen. Almanza, a 32-year-old lefthander, spent spring training with the San Francisco Giants, but was released before inking a minor league deal with the Diamondbacks. He has appeared in 248 games at the major league level.

Almanza has signed a minor league contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks. The 32-year-old lefthander has made 248 relief appearances in the major leagues, going 14-13 with a 4.87 ERA. In 13 games with the Atlanta Braves last season, he was 1-1 with a 6.17 ERA.

Almanza will be assigned to Double-A Tennessee.
