Durazo signed a minor league contract Tuesday with the Texas Rangers. The 32-year-old first baseman hit .237 with four homers and 16 RBIs in 41 games for Oakland last season before having ligament replacement surgery in his left elbow.

Durazo will undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery on his left elbow Friday, and Oakland's designated hitter is expected to be sidelined 9-12 months. The initial diagnosis was elbow tendinitis, but Durazo didn't improve during the course of a rehab program. A visit with Dr. Lewis Yocum on Monday led to the decision to rebuild Durazo's elbow.

Durazo has been out since May 25 with left elbow tendinitis, and Oakland trainer Larry Davis said Monday that the A's designated hitter isn't getting better and his rehab work has failed to improve the condition of his elbow. Durazo was scheduled to be examined by Dr. Lewis Yocum on Monday evening.

Durazo will meet with Dr. Lewis Yokum again on Monday for another exam of his sore left elbow.

Durazo will meet with Dr. Lewis Yocum again on Monday for another exam of his sore left elbow. The A's designated hitter had been expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment in the near future, but suffered a setback after experiencing discomfort in the arm while taking batting practice on Thursday.

On the disabled list with left elbow tendinitis, Durazo met with Dr. Lewis Yokum earlier this week, who recommended that the A's continue with their treatment of rest and anti-inflammatories for their designated hitter.

6/16/2005

Durazo has been slow to recuperate from tendinitis in his left elbow, and the Oakland DH isn't ready to return. The 30-year-old Durazo has been on the disabled list since May 25, and he's a .237 hitter with four home runs and 16 RBI in 41 games this season.

The Oakland Athletics placed Durazo on the 15-day disabled list Friday, retroactive to Wednesday. The A's designated hitter is battling tendinitis in his left elbow. After enjoying a career year with Oakland in 2004, Durazo has started slowly this spring, batting .237 with four home runs and 16 RBI in 41 games.
