Vicente Padilla

7/19/2006

Padilla won his fourth straight start Tuesday in the Rangers' 5-2 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays. The Texas right-hander allowed two runs and seven hits in seven innings.

1/28/2006

Padilla agreed Friday to a $4.41 million, one-year contract with the Texas Rangers. The 28-year-old right-hander went 9-12 with a 4.71 ERA in 27 starts last season with the Phillies.

9/14/2005

Padilla's tender ribcage felt fine after a throwing session on Monday, and the righthander will return to the Philadelphia rotation Saturday against the Florida Marlins. The veteran made his last start last Wednesday, when he was roughed up by Houston.

9/10/2005

Padilla will miss his scheduled start against Atlanta on Tuesday because of a strained ribcage. Gavin Floyd will make the start in his place. There is a chance that the injury could force the Phillies' righthander to miss the rest of the regular season.

8/19/2005

Padilla recorded his sixth win of the season, tossing six solid innings in Thursday's 2-1 victory over the Washington Nationals. The righthander allowed just one run on six hits, striking out four and walking two. Although he has just three wins to show for it, the Phillies' righthander has been quite impressive over his last eight starts, posting a 1.89 ERA.

7/18/2005

Padilla extended his scoreless innings streak to 13, turning in his second consecutive solid start. The Phillies' righthander held the Florida Marlins to just two hits over seven shutout innings to record the win in Sunday's 8-4 victory. He struck out five, walked two and added a two-run triple at the plate.

7/7/2005

With his spot in the starting rotation reportedly at risk, Padilla came through with a solid outing in Wednesday's 5-0 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Phillies' righthander, who had lost his previous three starts, notched the win by allowing just four hits in six shutout innings. He struck out two and walked four.

6/22/2005

Nursing an inflamed muscle in his neck, Padilla will miss his scheduled start against the New York Mets on Wednesday. The Phillies' righthander, who currently is listed as day-to-day, will be replaced on the mound by Robinson Tejada. In 10 outings this season, Padilla is 3-6 with a 6.23 ERA.

6/3/2005

Padilla has responded to treatment on his ailing back, and barring any last-minute setbacks, he will take the mound against the Arizona Diamondbacks Friday night. The injury has kept the Phillies' righthander sidelined for nearly two weeks.

5/31/2005

Padilla is battling some discomfort in his back, and he will be skipped this time through the Phillies' starting rotation as a result. The righthander, who has not taken the mound since losing to the Baltimore Orioles on May 21, should be back in action by the weekend, as long as he responds to treatment. In seven starts this season, Padilla is 1-5 with a 7.03 ERA.

4/20/2005

Although he had no problems with his arm, Padilla's season debut could not have gone much worse. The Phillies' righthander, who missed some time in spring training with triceps tendinitis and spent the first two weeks of the regular season on the disabled list builiding up his arm strength, allowed eight runs on eight hits, including five home runs, over just three innings in Tuesday's loss to the New York Mets. He was replaced on the mound by Gavin Floyd.

It might take Padilla a few starts to shake off some rust. Keep him on your bench until he puts a couple solid outings together. In 20 starts last season, Padilla was 7-7 with a 4.53 ERA.

4/18/2005

Padilla will be activated from the 15-day disabled list in time to take the mound for the Phillies in Tuesday's game against the New York Mets. The righthander, who has been building up his arm strength since missing some time in spring training with triceps tendinitis, will be limited to 90 pitches in his season debut, according to manager Charlie Manuel.

Gavin Floyd was slated to return to the minors to open a spot on the Phillies' roster for Padilla, but instead, he will pitch in long relief for the time being. In 20 starts last season, Padilla was 7-7 with a 4.53 ERA.

4/13/2005

As anticipated, Padilla took the mound for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday, as he continues to build back the strength in his pitching arm. The righthander, who was limited this spring by triceps tendinitis, gave up two runs on six hits over five innings, throwing 79 pitches. He struck out two and walked two. Barring any last-minute setbacks, Padilla will be activated from the 15-day disabled list in time to take the mound for the Phillies on April 20.

Gavin Floyd has been filling the void in Padilla's absence, but likely will be optioned to the minors when Padilla is good to go. In 20 starts last season, Padilla was 7-7 with a 4.53 ERA.

4/12/2005

The Philadelphia Phillies have decided to give Padilla one more minor league start before activating him from the 15-day disabled list. The righthander, who was limited this spring by triceps tendinitis, is working on regaining his arm strength and is scheduled to take the mound for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday. He plans to throw around 85 pitches.

As long as no problems are reported after Tuesday's outing, Padilla is expected to rejoin the Phillies' rotation and start against the Colorado Rockies on April 20. Gavin Floyd has been filling the void in Padilla's absence, but likely will be optioned to the minors when Padilla is good to go. In 20 starts last season, Padilla was 7-7 with a 4.53 ERA.

4/7/2005

Padilla is scheduled to take the mound for Class-A Clearwater on Thursday, and if all goes well, he could join the Phillies starting rotation as early as next week. The righthander, who was limited this spring by triceps tendinitis, is working on regaining his arm strength. He is eligible to be activated from the 15-day disabled list on Saturday, but the team might give him another minor league outing before adding him to the roster.

Gavin Floyd will fill the open spot in the Phillies' starting rotation until Padilla is ready to take the mound. In 20 starts last season, Padilla was 7-7 with a 4.53 ERA.
