Brian Cooper

8/21/2005

Cooper has been recalled from Triple-A Fresno by the San Francisco Giants, filling the roster spot of injured reliever Tyler Walker. The righthander has pitched in just three games with the Giants this season, including one start. In those contests, he went 0-1 with a 1.80 ERA.

The San Francisco Giants activated closer Armando Benitez from the 60-day disabled list Monday, and outrighted Cooper to Triple-A Fresno to make room for him. In a start and two relief appearances for the Giants, Cooper was 0-1 with a 1.80 ERA.

On Sunday, the San Francisco Giants placed lefthander Kirk Rueter on the 15-day disabled list and recalled Cooper to make Sunday's start against Roger Clemens and the Houston Astros. The 31-year-old journeyman was the emergency starter in place of Brett Tomko, who didn't pitch because of a bruised heel. Rueter would have been given the start, but he went on the DL instead.
