Alex Gonzalez

9/30/2005

For the second time in less than a year, Gonzalez was scheduled to have arthroscopic elbow surgery on Thursday. The Florida shortstop will have bone chips removed as well as undergo a general cleanup of the elbow. He also had loose bodies removed during the offseason.

9/14/2005

Gonzalez received a cortisone shot last weekend for the tender elbow that has kept him on the sidelines since September 7. The Florida shortstop, who has been rehabbing the injury on his own, won't rejoin his teammates until the Marlins return from a road trip this weekend.

9/6/2005

Gonzalez' elbow has worsened as the 2005 season has wore on. The Florida shortstop sat out Monday's loss to Washington, and he could miss a lot of time down the stretch. Another MRI exam on his elbow is scheduled for Tuesday.

7/25/2005

Due to some discomfort in hs right elbow, Gonzalez has been absent from the Marlins' starting lineup the last two games. According to manager Jack McKeon, the ailment, which bothers the shortstop primarily on his throws, is not serious and should not warrant a trip to the 15-day disabled list. With an off-day on Monday, the Marlins are hoping that Gonzalez will be ready for Tuesday's meeting with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

6/28/2005

Gonzalez extended his career-best hitting streak to 17 games on Monday. The Florida shortstop is batting .302 (19-for-63) during his 17-game run.

6/27/2005

With a third-inning single in three at-bats Sunday, Gonzalez extended his hitting streak to a career-high 16 games. The Florida shortstop is a .300 hitter (18-for-60) during his streak, though with just seven runs scored and five RBI. For the season, Gonzalez is a .279 hitter with a .336 on-base percentage in 69 games.

4/16/2005

Gonzalez sat out of the Marlins' game on Friday night with tightness in his left hamstring. The shortstop may sit out again on Saturday, as he is listed day-to-day with the injury. Damion Easley will start at shortstop in place of Gonzalez if he is unable to go.

Prior to the game, Gonzalez said that he felt well enough to play. This may be a risky start for fantasy owners.

4/13/2005

As a precautionary measure, Gonzalez will be held out of Wednesday's game versus the Philadelphia Phillies after leaving in the fourth inning of Tuesday's contest with tightness in his left hamstring. The injury is considered minor, and the shortstop should be back in the starting lineup when the Marlins begin their weekend series against the New York Mets, according to manager Jack McKeon.

Veteran Damion Easley likely will get the nod at short in Gonzalez' absence. In eight games this season, Gonzalez is batting .321 with one home run and three RBI. Consider him as day-to-day.
