Jarrod Washburn

12/20/2005

Washburn agreed to a four-year, $37.5 million deal with the Seattle Mariners on Monday, leaving the Los Angeles Angels for a team coming off consecutive last-place finishes.

10/11/2005

Washburn has been diagnosed with strep throat, but there is an AP report that the Angels' lefthander will be ready to work Game 2 of the American League Championship Series against the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday. He was scratched from Sunday's ALDS Game 4 start against the Yankees because of his illness.

Angels' manager Mike Scioscia has flip-flopped his pitching rotation. Jarrod Washburn, who was scheduled to pitch on Friday, will now pitch on Saturday. Scioscia decided to let John Lackey pitch on Friday to get him in line to pitch the team's second game of the playoffs. Washburn will likely start game three of the divisional series.

9/27/2005

After a two-week layoff for forearm tendinitis, Washburn returned to the Angels' rotation Saturday and worked six innings to claim the "W" in a 7-3 win over Tampa Bay. The Angels' lefthander allowed five hits, a walk and two unearned runs to push his record to 8-8 with a 3.23 ERA in 28 starts this season.

9/21/2005

Bartolo Colon stepped in and took Washburn's start on Tuesday night. The Angels' lefthander missed his second turn because of forearm tendinitis that has plagued him on and off all season. There is no timetable in place for Washburn's return.

9/15/2005

Although Washburn's forearm tendinitis was better on Wednesday, the Angels' lefthander missed his Wednesday start and he remains questionable for his next turn in the rotation. There is no timetable for Washburn to start throwing again.

9/13/2005

Washburn is expected to miss his Wednesday start because of forearm tendinitis. The Angels' lefthander will be replaced by top lefty prospect Joe Saunders, who will face Seattle in his second big league start. Washburn is 7-8 with a 3.35 ERA in 27 starts this season.

8/12/2005

Washburn, sidelined with a strained left forearm since making his last start on July 24, was activated from the 15-day disabled list Friday. The Angels' lefthander will face the Seattle Mariners in their series opener at Safeco Field on Friday evening. He is 6-6 with a 3.28 ERA in 21 starts this season.

8/4/2005

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim placed Washburn on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday night because of inflammation in his elbow. The move, which was announced after the Angels' 8-4 win over Baltimore, is retroactive to July 25. The Angels' southpaw tried throwing in the bullpen on Wednesday, but after the session, the club decided it was best to put him on the DL. He is 6-6 despite a 3.28 ERA that ranks seventh in the American League.

7/30/2005

Washburn will miss his scheduled start Sunday against the New York Yankees because of forearm tendinitis. Chris Bootcheck will be recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake to make the start for the Angels in Washburn's place.

4/7/2005

After a disappointing 2004 campaign marred by a nagging rib injury, Washburn got his 2005 season off to a good start in Wednesday's matchup with the Texas Rangers. The Angels lefthander held the Rangers' potent offense in check, scattering seven hits over six innings, striking out five and walking none.

Washburn fininshed last season 11-8 with a 4.64 ERA and one complete game in 25 starts. The Angels hope Wednesday's performance is a sign that he will return to his 2002 form, when he posted a 18-6 record and career-best 3.15 ERA.
