Paul Bako

7/8/2006

Bako was placed on the 15-day disabled list by Kansas City on Friday with a partially torn right oblique muscle. He suffered the injury during batting practice on Thursda. The backup catcher was hitting .30 with seven RBIs in 34 games.

Tests have revealed that Bako has a tear in the anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee, an injury suffered last month and though to be just a sprain. The Dodgers' catcher, who currently is on the disabled list, will undergo reconstructive surgery and miss the rest of the 2005 campaign. Jason Phillips and Mike Rose will continue to handle the catching duties for LA.

Bako's sprained knee did not respond well after he caught a bullpen session, so the Dodgers' catcher will return to Los Angeles next week to be examined for a more serious injury.

The Dodgers placed Bako, suffering from a sprain of his left anterior cruciate ligament, on the 15-day disabled list. Bako has seen action in 13 games as the backup catcher, hitting .250 with a .362 on-base percentage in 40 at bats.

Bako experienced some discomfort in his left knee during the ninth inning of Thursday's meeting with the San Francisco Giants, and was forced to leave the game. Although the injury is not considered serious, the Dodgers' backup catcher will undergo precautionary tests on Friday. He has been listed as day-to-day.
