Cliff Politte

6/30/2006

Politte returned to the White Sox on Thursday following a minor league rehabilitation assignment. The right-handed reliever has been suffering from right shoulder inflammation. In 24 appearances this season, Politte is 1-2 with a 7.48 ERA. He's allowed 18 earned runs in 21 2-3 innings.

The White Sox elected to pick up the $1.2 million option on Politte for the 2006 season.

White Sox closer Dustin Hermanson is sidelined with a lower back ailment and Politte will pick up some save chances if Hermanson is out for any length of time. Politte got the ninth-inning call for Chicago's 7-5 win over Detroit on Monday, and the 31-year-old righthander earned his first save of the season despite allowing a home run to Tigers catcher Ivan Rodriguez.
