Konerko was out of the White Sox lineup on Thursday. Chicago's first baseman is in a 5-for-26 slump."Sometimes mentally you need a day off," manager Ozzie Guillen said. "I think it's a good time for him to relax a little bit. It's a long season."

Konerko hit two home runs in Chicago's 4-2 win over Toronto on Saturday, after homering once on Friday.

Konerko and the Chicago White Sox have agreed to a five-year, $60 million deal to keep the first baseman on the South Side. The contract calls for him to receive $12 million annually. Chicago agreed to a limited no-trade clause that states he can't be dealt to six specified teams without his permission.

Both his 12-game hitting streak and homer-hitting run came to a close on Thursday, as Konerko went 0-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts in the White Sox' 4-2 loss to Kansas City. Prior to Thursday, Chicago's first baseman had homered in four straight contests and had batted .409 during a 12-game hitting streak. For the season, he's a .279 hitter with 36 home runs and 89 RBI.

With a solo homer for the only run in Chicago's 1-0 win over Kansas City Wednesday, Konerko now has home runs in his last four contests. He's victimized pitchers from the Tigers, Red Sox and Royals over his four-game run, and the White Sox' first baseman has a 12-game hitting streak to boot. During his streak, he's 18-for-44 (.409) with three doubles, four homers, nine RBI and 12 runs scored.

With a two-run single and a homer in Chicago's 6-5 win over Kansas City on Tuesday, Konerko not only has an 11-game hitting streak, but also a home run in three straight games. The White Sox' first baseman is a .405 hitter during his 11-game streak, and the streak includes three doubles, three homers, eight RBI and 11 runs scored.

Out since August 17 with a strained back, Konerko returned to the lineup Sunday against Randy Johnson and the Yankees, and collected two hits, including the third of back-to-back-to-back home runs in a six-run fourth inning.

8/20/2005

Konerko was out of the starting lineup for the second straight game Saturday after the White Sox first baseman strained his back during batting practice on Friday. Konerko, who is hitting .271 with 31 home runs and 78 RBI, hopes to play Sunday, when Chicago faces Randy Johnson and the Yankees.

After popping out to shallow right in his first at-bat of Sunday's extra-inning loss to the Oakland A's, Konerko hit safely in his next five at-bats to record a career high for hits in a game. The White Sox' first baseman finished the day 5-for-6 with a solo home run and three runs scored, boosting his season batting average by 11 points.

It appears Konerko is getting out of his slump, He's hitting .385 in his last ten games with four homers. However Paul is struggling this season with left-handers, hitting only .179 (7-for-39). He's a career .295 hitter against lefties.

It appears Konerko is getting out of his slump. He's hitting .385 in his last 10 games with four homers. The White Sox' first baseman has struggled this season with lefthanders, hitting only .179 (7-for-39). He's a career .295 hitter against lefties.

After going 0-for-3 against Texas on Monday night, Konerko has no hits in his last nine at-bats. His hitless run is part of a much larger funk that included an 0-for-26 skid that began in late April and carried into May. Since April 20, the White Sox' first baseman is 13-for-84 (.155) with just two homers.

On April 19, Konerko stroked his seventh homer to take over the American League lead, but since then he has struggled. The best you can say is that he's still managed to record 15 RBI over this 25-game slump.

5/6/2005

On Thursday afternoon, Konerko was 0-for-2 with a walk in the White Sox' 2-1 win over Kansas City. The hitless streak of the Sox' first baseman was extended to 0-for-24, dating back to a double in Oakland on April 27. He is hitting .190 with seven homers and 17 RBI for the season.

5/5/2005

Heading into Chicago's Thursday matinee against Kansas City, Konerko is mired in an 0-for-22 slide that has dropped his average below the Mendoza line. The White Sox' first baseman was batting .250 on April 16, when he took over the American League lead in homers with six. Before taking the field to face the Royals on Thursday, Konerko was stalled at seven dingers, and his average for the season had dropped to .194.

4/17/2005

Konerko took over the top spot in the American League home-run race when he homered twice against Seattle's Ryan Franklin on Saturday, leading the White Sox to a 2-1 win over the Mariners. The Sox' first baseman now has six dingers on the new season, one more than Baltimore's Brian Roberts.
