Miguel Tejada

7/3/2006

Baltimore's Tejada was selected to his fourth All-Star team on Sunday, as a reserve shortstop for the American League. Tejada is batting .317 with 16 homers and 57 RBIs this season.

Tejada set the Orioles record for hits in April, then left Friday's 5-2 win over Seattle with a hyperextended left knee. Tejada homered in the game, giving him 41 hits in the month, but left in the eighth inning. He suffered the injury while chasing down a foul ball earlier in the game.

The Associated Press reported on Thursday that Tejada says he would like to be traded from Baltimore. The All-Star shortstop told the AP in a phone interview things have not gone in the direction he had hoped with the Orioles and that a change of scenery would be best.

Despite going just 1-for-3, Tejada was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2005 MLB All-Star game. The Baltimore Orioles' shortstop connected for a solo homer off Atlanta's John Smoltz in his first at-bat before adding an RBI groundout in the third inning. Tejada got the job done with his glove as well, knocking down a sharp one-hopper to begin a double play in the first.

7/10/2005

Tejada singled four times and added a triple in the Orioles' 9-1 win over the Red Sox Saturday, the second five-hit game of his career. His last five-hit game came on June 19, 2003 against the Texas Rangers.

6/2/2005

Despite discomfort in his left shoulder from a headfirst slide on Monday night, Tejada was 4-for-5 with three doubles, a homer and three runs scored in Baltimore's 9-3 win over Boston Wednesday. The Orioles' shortstop won't be sitting out any games. Wednesday's was his 808th straight, the longest active streak in the majors.

In Baltimore's Monday night win over Boston, Tejada scored on a headfirst slide into home, but he got up in obvious pain. The Orioles' shortstop woke up on Tuesday with the same pain in his left shoulder, but it didn't keep him out of the lineup that night. In Baltimore's loss to Boston on Tuesday, Tejada was on the field for his 807th straight game.

5/26/2005

Tejada played in his 800th consecutive game Tuesday in Baltimore's 3-1 victory over Seattle. That is the longest current active streak in the majors -- the 10th longest all time -- and the longest since Cal Ripken's 2,632-game streak began in 1982.

Tejada continued his hot hitting on Saturday, going 2-for-3 and extending his homer streak to three games in a victory over the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Over his last seven contests, the Orioles' shortstop is batting .387 with four home runs, two doubles and 12 RBI.

Tejada has hit safely in 19 of his 23 games this season. For the year, he is batting .347 with eight home runs, six doubles, one triple and 31 RBI.
