Dennys Reyes

7/19/2005

The San Diego Padres have placed Reyes on waivers for the purpose of giving him his unconditional release. The veteran lefthander has struggled in his last four appearances, allowing 10 runs -- nine earned -- on 12 hits in seven innings of work. He walked nine and struck out three over that stretch.

With Adam Eaton still not quite ready to return from a strained finger, the Padres will turn to Reyes to make a spot start against the Houston Astros on Tuesday. In 32 relief appearances this season, the lefthander is 3-1 with a 3.93 ERA. He has 32 strikeouts and 23 walks in 36.2 innings of work.
