John Thomson

6/16/2006

The Atlanta Braves placed Thomson on the 15-day disabled list Friday with a blister on the middle finger of his right hand. The Braves' right-handed pitcher developed the blister during Wednesday's start against the Florida Marlins. To replace him on roster, Atlanta recalled Lance Cormier from Triple-A Richmond.

Thomson has been bothered by tenderness in his right elbow as spring training winds down. The Atlanta Braves report the right-hander is day-to-day.

The Braves exercised their 2006 option on Thomson for $4.75 million.

On Saturday the Braves activated Thomson from the 60-day disabled list. The righthander had been out since May, when he strained a flexor tendon in a finger on his right hand. Prior to going down, the veteran had been 3-2 with a 3.42 ERA in eight games.

Thomson allowed one run on four hits over six innings in a minor league start with Double-A Mississippi on Monday, and barring any last-minute setbacks, he will be activated from the disabled list in time to take the mound against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday. The Braves' righthander has been sidelined for nearly three months with a partial tear of the supporting structures surrounding the flexor tendon in the middle finger of his pitching hand.

Thomson continues to recover from a partial tear of the supporting structures surrounding the flexor tendon in the middle finger of his pitching hand, and barring any setbacks, he should be back in the Braves' starting rotation within the next couple of weeks. The righthander reported no major problems after tossing two scoreless innings for Atlanta's Rookie League affiliate on Monday.

Thomson has been sidelined for nearly six weeks with a partial tear of the supporting structures surrounding the flexor tendon in the middle finger of his pitching hand. However, the righthander resumed throwing recently and reported no major problems. If he stays on schedule in his recovery, Thomson hopes to rejoin the Atlanta Braves' rotation by late July.

After being evaluated by a hand specialist, Thomson has been diagnosed with a parital tear of the supporting structures surrounding the flexor tendon in the middle finger of his pitching hand, according to Braves general manager John Schuerholz. The righthander, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list, is not expected to require surgery, but he will be sidelined for at least two months. The team has yet to determine who will fill the void in the starting rotation.

Thomson was forced to exit Monday's game against the San Diego Padres after straining a tendon in the middle finger of his right hand while throwing a pitch in the fifth inning. The Braves' righthander, who will return to Atlanta to be evaluated by a specialist, is expected to miss at least one start, and a trip to the 15-day disabled list has not been ruled out. His status will be updated within the next couple of days.

Thomson was replaced on the mound by Adam Bernero, who could get the starting nod in his absence. For the season, Thomson is 3-2 with a 3.42 ERA and one complete game in eight outings.

With his availability over the next couple of weeks highly in doubt, Thomson has been placed on the 15-day disabled list by the Atlanta Braves. The righthander, who was forced to leave Monday's start against the San Diego Padres after straining a tendon in the middle finger of his right hand while throwing a pitch in the fifth inning, will be re-evaluated by a specialist in Atlanta this week to determine exactly how much time he might miss.

Thomson has been receiving treatment over the past couple of days after experiencing discomfort in his back during his start against the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday. The Braves' righthander struggled in the outing, allowing five runs on eight hits and three walks in 4.2 innings. He failed to strike out a batter. For now, he has been listed as day-to-day.

Thomson's injury is not considered serious, and the team is hopeful that he will be ready for his next turn in the rotation. For the season, he is 3-2 with a 3.55 ERA and one complete game in seven starts.

5/6/2005

Thomson notched his first complete game of the season -- and first since 2003 -- going the distance in Thursday's victory over Houston. Although the Astros were able to post three runs, the Braves' righthander limited them to just three hits, striking out five and walking none. He now has 10 complete games in his major league career.

Thomson has lasted six or more innings in each of his six starts this season. For the year, he is 3-2 with a 2.85 ERA and 1.12 WHIP. He has 29 strikeouts and just eight walks in 41 innings of work.

4/25/2005

After allowing four runs in each of his previous two outings, Thomson turned in the best start of his 2005 campaign in Sunday's victory over the Philadelphia Phillies. The Braves' righthander scattered five hits over seven shutout innings, striking out eight batters and walking two.

In four starts this season, Thomson is 2-2 with a 3.12 ERA. The Braves' offense is beginning to come around after a slow start, so with their support, Thomson should be a solid option as a third-fifth fantasy starter going forward.
