Ken Huckaby

8/26/2005

The Blue Jays designated Huckaby for assignment, calling up Guillermo Quiroz from Triple-A Syracuse.

4/26/2005

On Tuesday, the Toronto Blue Jays acquired Huckaby's contract from Triple-A Syracuse and promoted the 34-year-old catcher. Huckaby was hitting just .219 (7-for-32) without an extra-base hit or RBI for Syracuse, but the Jays were looking for a better defensive option for the big league club. He is a .227 hitter in 335 major league at-bats over parts of four seasons.

To make room for Huckaby, the Jays planned to reassign veteran Greg Myers to Syracuse, but he refused the minor league assignment and became a free agent.
