Julio Mosquera

6/14/2005

On Monday, the Milwaukee Brewers recalled power prospect Prince Fielder to assume most of the DH at-bats in American League parks this week and designated Mosquera for assignment to make room for Fielder. The 33-year-old catcher managed to get one at-bat in a little less than a week with the Brewers, and he didn't register a hit in his first big league plate appearance since 1997 with Toronto.

The Milwaukee Brewers have purchased Mosquera's contract from Triple-A Nashville. The catcher will serve as an emergency backup to Chad Moeller, who will fill in for regular starter Damian Miller while he recovers from a strained groin. Mosquera has not played in the major leagues since 1997.
