Quinton McCracken

7/6/2006

McCracken was designated for assignment by Cincinnati on Thursday, meaning the Reds have 10 days to trade or release the left fielder. McCracken was signed as a free agent in the spring and batted .208 in 53 at-bats for the Reds this season. He led the team with seven pinch hits.

McCracken's contract was purchased by the Reds from Sarasota of the Class A Florida State League on Friday. The 35-year-old McCracken can play all three outfield positions and adds some depth as Ken Griffey Jr. has missed two straight starts due to stiffness in his right knee. McCracken batted .500 (8-for-16) at Sarasota with a triple and three runs scored.

After coming off the bench in the fifth inning of Monday's matchup with the Florida Marlins, McCracken went 4-for-5, including a game-winning triple in the 11th inning. The Diamondbacks' outfielder, who matched his career high for hits in a game, finished the contest with three RBI and a stolen base.
