The Florida Marlins traded Villone to the New York Yankees for minor league pitcher Ben Julianel on Friday. The 35-year-old left-hander split the 2005 season between Seattle and Florida. He finished 5-5 with a 4.08 ERA in a total of 79 games between the two teams. Villone is owed $2 million next season in the second year of a $4.2 million, two-year contract.

The Florida Marlins acquired reliever Ron Villone from Seattle in exchange for two minor league pitchers on Sunday, bolstering their bullpen shortly before baseball's July 31 trade deadline. This season Villone was 2-3 with a save, a 2.45 ERA and 41 strikeouts in 40.1 innings for the Mariners.
