Rick Helling

6/20/2006

Helling, out since mid-April with a sprained elbow, will make his first start of the season for Milwaukee on Tuesday night against Detroit. He has yet to be activated from the 60-day DL and another pitcher will likely be sent down to the minors. Helling went 1-0 with a 3.75 ERA in two rehab starts for Triple-A Nashville.

6/3/2006

Helling was moved to the 60-day disabled list by the Brewers due to a sprained right elbow. The right-hander has not played since April 10 and has only appeared in two games this season, allowing two hits with a strikeout and a walk in three scoreless innings. The move makes room for pitcher Zach Jackson to be added to the roster.

4/16/2006

Helling was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday with a sprained right elbow, making room on the roster for right-hander Ben Sheets. Sheets went on to struggle in his first start this season, allowing four earned runs and six hits in five innings of a 9-3 loss to the New York Mets on Sunday.

3/17/2006

Helling has been slowed by shoulder and elbow discomfort this spring, but he threw on the side Thursday. The Brewers' starter is expected to pitch Saturday against the San Diego Padres or in a minor league game.

11/20/2005

Helling agreed to a one-year, $850,000 contract to return to the Brewers for 2006. He went 3-1 with a 2.39 ERA in 15 appearances for Milwaukee this year.

8/24/2005

Helling will step into the Milwaukee Brewers' starting rotation, replacing the struggling Victor Santos. The veteran righthander, who is 1-0 with a 3.52 ERA in eight appearances since being recalled from the minor leagues, is scheduled to make his first major league start in nearly two years when he takes the mound against the Atlanta Braves on Saturday.

7/27/2005

The Milwaukee Brewers have purchased Helling's contract from Triple-A Nashville, filling the roster spot of righthander Ricky Bottalico, who was designated for assignment on Wednesday. The 34-year-old Helling made 21 starts with the minor league club this season, going 9-3 with a 4.13 ERA.
